Introduction to Our Spiritual Counseling Course

The Guild offers a four-tier training program. Each certification course leads to a higher skillset and knowledge base. The first level of certification is Initiate, the second level is Adept,  the third and highest clinical level is Master, and the fourth, Master Teacher, is for those who wish to become teachers within the Guild. They need to be taken in order, and each builds upon the other. Each course is 24 hours and is held in an online format over two weekends, although in-person participation is available. (See Curriculum below.) We use Zoom as our online platform and Canvas as our teaching platform. The textbook for the course is A Fresh Cup of Counseling: A Handbook of Spiritual  Counseling. It is available on Wipf and Stock Publishing, Amazon, and all major booksellers.

In addition to the training courses, there will be ongoing individual and peer group mentoring for graduates. A community forum platform will also gather together the best spiritual counseling and coaching professionals to further advance the field.

Certification Requirements for Spiritual Counseling Course

Professionals with a minimum Master's Degree in counseling and coaching or a related field. Graduate students in Masters or Doctorate programs in counseling or coaching or a related field. This would include psychiatrists, psychologists, social workers, mental health counselors, psychiatric nurses, marriage and family therapists, educational psychologists, life and career coaches, and so on.

Spiritual Counseling Training Expectations

We treat this training as graduate-level work, so we expect that you will take these courses as seriously as if it was part of your Master's or Doctorate program. We expect you to read the required books, book chapters, and movies, because all provide an essential foundation for your work. We expect you to be on time and model the professional behavior required for this important work through your attendance and participation.

Our Spiritual Counseling Course Curriculum

Level 1 Training: Initiate

This course introduces the practitioner to the basics of holistic spiritual counseling and coaching. It brings in Chinese. Hindu, and Native American spiritual traditions that can be used in counseling. The curriculum includes:
